In the outstanding tradition of hosting 43 years of the Amtrak Century, we are excited to announce that registration is now open for the first annual Pacific Coast 100. This new ride will still begin at the Irvine Transportation Center on September 7th and will head down the beautiful Pacific Coast to Torrey Pines. After finishing the climb, riders will celebrate with a traditional popsicle then turn around and HEAD BACK UP the coast. They will eventually turn inland and finish in Carlsbad at the Rouleur Brewery Company where the party will begin. Each rider over 21 will receive a custom beer glass filled with a craft beer made especially for the ride courtesy of OCW. All riders will also receive a beautiful finishers medal. An excellent lunch will be once again be provided by the good people of Bristol Farms. Click on the link below for more details of this great fun ride.
Following this Sunday's club ride (August 25th) plan to bring a picnic lunch to Turtle Rock Park in, where else, Turtle Rock. This is a BYOL (lunch) and drink (alcohol is not legally permitted at the park). If you do not want to get up early enough to make the start of the ride at 8 AM, we expect the ride to conclude around 11 AM. Come anyway and enjoy the summer weather in beautiful Turtle Rock Park with your fellow club members. Check our calendar page for directions to the park.
Come join us on September 21st from 9 am until Noon for the annual Inner-Coastal Watershed Clean Up Day!
We have been invited to join the good folks at the Irvine Ranch Water District (where we hold our monthly general meeting) to join them and the community at the annual Inner-Coastal Watershed Clean Up Day. Trash that is not picked up eventually ends up polluting the ocean and is highly destructive to the environment. The following is copied from the memo asking for our assistance:
Hundreds of volunteers arrive to pick up hundreds of pounds of trash from the San Diego Creek located at 3512 Michelson Dr, Irvine CA 92618 near the IRWD Michelson Water Reclamation Plant each year. This event brings awareness to watershed liter and encourages involvement in cleaning and protecting our watershed. Invite family, friends, co-workers to volunteer!
This event is outdoors so please be prepared for the weather- sunblock, hats, protective clothing and jackets may be needed. Also bring a refillable water container to stay hydrated. We will provide the latex gloves, safety masks and trash bags.
